A road to Central Tien-Shan 2017

Day 1 Arr.trf to hotel, in the afternoon city tour. Hotel B,L,D

Bishkek is the capital of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, with a population of about 1 million. It is the soul and the heart of Kyrgyzstan: its political, economic, cultural and scientific center, and the main transport hub.  The centre is heavily influenced by the Soviets, and you can enjoy quite a number of typical soviet-style architecture (Philharmonia – concert hall, government building, Historic Museum) but also modern monuments pointing out the traditional Kyrgyz culture (Monument of Manas, Monument of Independence).Famous for its shady boulevards and tree lined streets, the city is very green.

National Historical Museum is a perfect display of the Kyrgyz people and the history of the country of Kyrgyzstan. The Historical Museum Bishkek is considered as one of the most impressive historical museums of the country as it displays the entire history of the Kyrgyz from their nomadic living to the 1940’s war. It was formerly known as the Lenin Museum and is often referred by this name. It is   located at the Ala-Too Square in Bishkek and is open to public from Tuesday to Sunday.

Day 2 Drive Karakol town, 400 km. Visit to Burana tower (11-13 cc) It’s take 8 hours.O/n in guesthouse B,L,D.

Burana Tower - situated 10 km south of Tokmok, is all that remains of the ancient city Balasagun, which was established by the Karahanids at the end of the 10th century.  The entire museum complex today includes the tower itself (24.6 m high), reconstructions of mausoleums, a mound that is all that remains of the palace, a collection of balbals (grave stones) and a museum. From the Tower, it is possible to head into the mountains to a picturesque valley to the Kegety or Shamshy gorges.

Day 3 After short city tour drive to Jergalan gorge (70 km). Lunch and start of our trekking (3 h). Tents camp on 2600m above sea level. B,L,D

The Russian Orthodox Cathedral built originally of stone in 1872, replaced the new towns first Christian place of worship, a jurt. Destroyed by an earthquake in 1890, a new cathedral was completed in 1895, of wood on a brick base. The ravages of communist secularism stripped the cathedral of its domes. Rebuilding was completed in the early 1990s for deconsecrating in 1991 and 1997.

Dungan Mosque - distinctly Chinese building looks bizarrely out of place in Karakol. It is a masterpiece of Dungan architecture, featuring a carved frieze of fine workmanship. Inside its imagery is an eclectic mix, testament to the Dungans pre-Islamic Buddhist past,   combining a pomegranate with Buddhist imagery such as the shell and wheel of fire. Completed in 1910 it was built entirely without nails using an uncommon grey-blue brick. Instead of a minaret, the mosque has a wooden pagoda.

From pass you can see Nansen peak (5697 m) on opposite site of Inylchek valley. Camp near the big stone in Inylchek valley. It’s take 6-7 hours. 2880m above sea level  Tent B,L,D

Nansen peak (5697 m) is a huge peak, though it is not the highest mountain at Inylchek glacier. Its northern slopes cliff steeply from the summit down to 2900m, to the Inylchek valley and represent a magnificent sight. The foothills are covered with spruce forest, and above this forest a large line of ice pedestals at the gigantic and still unexplored Severnaya Stena (The Northern Wall) are seen.

Day 9 Hike along Inylcheck glacier 5 hours. Today we go up to Inylchek glacier, then we cross the glacier and put the camp under slops of Nansen peak. 3000 above sea level    Tent     B,L,D

Day 11     Day rest. You can have a rest or do helicopter fly-around Khan-Tengri, Pobeda peaks and Merzbaher lake.

Khan-Tengry Peak - 6995m is without doubt the Jewel of the Tien Shan. It is the second highest mountain in this most northerly and remote of the great Asian mountain ranges. Among the local people, the white peaks are known as 'The Mountains of Heaven'. Khan-Tengri was first climbed by a Soviet expedition in 1931, via the West Col and West Ridge.

Pobeda Peak at 7439 m, it is the highest mountain in the Tien Shan range which straddles Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and north-western China. It was the second highest mountain in the former Soviet Union. The South-eastern slopes of the mountain are actually in China, the border itself running over the summit, and along the ridges spreading to the East and West.

Merzbacher’s lake is a mountainous lake located between the ranges Tengri-Tag and Sarydzhaz. This lake was named after the German explorer Merzbacher, who headed an expedition which discovered this lake in 1903. The lake appeared at the end of the Little Ice Age. Twice a year, on summer and winter seasons, the bottom of the lake crashes and all of its volume discharges the water into Inylchek valley. The discharge goes through the sub glacial tunnels for 2-7 days. The speed of the discharge may exceed 1000 m per second.

Day 12 Drive to Karakol 180 km 7-8 hours. The way goes along Inylchek, then Saryjaz river, then we cross Terskey Ala-Too mountain range via Chon-Ashu pass 3816m, then descent to Karakol town. Rest in guesthouse. Hotel. B,L,D
