Trekking tour in Terskey Ala-Too mountain range in Kyrgysztan

Destination: Kyrgyzstan. East part of the mountain range Terskey Ala Too. Trekking goes along finest part of above range. The range Terskey Ala Too is situated to the south of Issyk Kul Lake. The length of the range is ca 250km. Elevation till 5218m above sea level. (Karakol Peak). Climate is from continental at west part to the maritime at the east part. At the trekking part there are passes 3600–3800 meters above sea level. Very often from height 3000m it snows. The route of trekking goes via coniferous forests, alpine meadow, slide-rocks by pathways.

Duration: 14 days

Group size: 2-15 pax

Meals: All meals (Russian, Asian, European meal). Breakfast and dinner are hot, lunch is lunchboxes.

Transportation:  Minibus MB “Sprinter”, Jeep 4WD, Vakhta 4WD for 18 places

Accommodation: In Bishkek – 2 nights, at Son Kul lake - yurt inn one night, hotel one night, Karakol – guesthouse one night, on the trekking – tents 8 nights

Guiding: English speaking escort guide +mountain guide during trekking part

Porterage: delivery of cargo 15 kg for each client during trekking

Routine of motion:  AM - 3-3,5 hours, PM – 2-3 hours, lunch time – 1 hour.

Equipment: Personal clothes and shoes for trekking till height 4000m above sea level, slipping bag till – 5^o C and mattress, sun glasses, gloves, warm socks and so on.

Itinerary:

Day 1. Bishkek

Early morning arrival in Bishkek and TRF to Hotel .Rest. Sightseeing tour in Bishkek (Independence square, Historical Museum, Osh Bazaar), money changing and welcome dinner

Day 2. Issyk Kul lake

Transfer to the Southern Issyk-Kul. Tosor yurt inn. Yurt inn.

Day 3. Chon Kyzyl Suu gorge

Drive to Chon-Kysyl-Suu gorge till hot springs. (2300m) 130km. After lunch trekking along the gorge 4 hours under Jili-Suu pass. O/n in tents. 3000 m. All meals. Porters.

Day 4. Jety Oguz gorge

Trekking to Gjety-Oguz gorge through Jili-Suu Pass (3680m). (5-7 hours). O/n in tents. All meals. Porters

Day 5. Under Telety pass

Ascend along Telety River to the camp before the Telety-pass and camp at 3000m. We trek a short way until turning left at the confluence of Djheti Oguz and Telety rivers to carry on along the Telety river through the fir forest. One hour past we reach the confluence of Ayutor River and Telety River. Two hours on we cross the Telety river over a log bridge and start ascending on rather steep trail winding up on the mountain spur through a thicket of juniper shrubs. After lunch we ascend rather steeply approximately 400 metres to our camp, situated near a small waterfall on the nice grassy spot.

Day 6. Telety Pass 3600m – Karakol gorge

Cross over Telety pass (3600 m) down to the Karakol River. First the trail ascents the stiff rocky terrain. Then it levels into green grassy spot, bypasses coarse-stone scree and runs down the mountain stream that is forded twice. After lunch we carry on downhill on alpine meadows to Karakol River valley and pitch Camp at approx. 2500m in the upper reaches of Karakol River.

Day 7. Sirota place

Ascend from Karakol river up to Sirota place. We trek first down valley along a good road for a short while and, past mountaineering camp site, cross over a foot bridge into the thick forest. 2600m

Day 8. Ala Kol Lake

Ascend from Sirota place up to Ala-Kul Lake. After lunch trek to Panorama pass. 3630 m

Day 9. Ala Kul Pass – Arashan gorge

Cross over Ala-Kul pass 3860 m, descend alongside of Arashan River to Altyn Arashan hot springs. We descent along the river meeting local herders and, possibly, visiting their yurts to taste kumyz, airan, milk. We camp at Altyn Arashan hot springs and go bathing in the spa. End of trek and farewell party with our crew. Tents.

Day 10. Altyn Arashan

Round trek to Altyn Arashan or rest. Overnight in the same place.

Day 11. To Karakol

Walking down from Altyn-Arashan (4 hours) and further drive to Karakol. Guest House. Full board.

Day 12. Issyk Kul Lake

City tour  Karakol, then drive to north part of Issyk Kul Lake. Hotel

Day 13. Bishkek

Drive to Bishkek. Hotel. Dinner at the local restaurant with folk musik. Full board

Day 14. Departure
